Terms and Conditions

Term dates: Term dates generally follow Wakefield District Council’s published term dates (please note that Academies, Faith, Independent and International schools often have their own term dates).

Fees and Payments: Each online session is charged at £30 per child for the Basic package and £40 per child for the Advanced package. Payments need to be paid in advance, in half term blocks or 4 week blocks, before the start of the next half term. If there is more than one child in the room, they will also need to be paid for.

Payment needs to be paid into the FB Tutoring bank account. Bank details will be provided by invoice when booking is confirmed.

Exact dates will be provided when the booking is confirmed.

Parents who want their child to start when it is part way through a half term, will be invoiced for the remaining sessions of the half term, then invoiced half termly or in 4 week blocks for all future sessions.

If payment is not received in advance, children will not be able to join the session.

Online Session Length: Each online session will last between 45 to 55 minutes depending on what is being delivered. As sessions are back to back, this allows for me running over or allows me to be ready for the next session.

Online Session Platform: Online sessions will be delivered on Zoom.

Online Session Groups: Up to 6 children will be grouped into each session where the same lesson content is being delivered. If a session only has 1 or 2 children in it, the session will still run.

Enquiries: Enquiries can be made by email to fiona@fbtutoring.com or via the Contact form on www.fbtutoring.com

Meet the Tutor: Parents who wish to sign their children up, will receive a free, online Welcome Meeting of up to 30 minutes so we can discuss the aims and outcomes of tutoring and you can meet me.

Communication: For child protection reasons, I communicate with you, as the parent, before tuition begins and ask for your consent to hold information on your child and permission to tutor.

Communication regarding booking invoices etc. is via email and occasionally text message or phone call.

Student progress and parental involvement: It is the parents’ responsibility to provide any additional information they feel is important to tuition (for example medical conditions/special education needs etc.)

Child Absence: If a child is going to be absent from their session, at least 48 hours notice needs to be given. If at least 48 hours notice is given, the missed session will then be credited onto the next block of sessions. Where less than 48 hours notice is given, unfortunately, as a small business, no refunds will be given and no credits will be issued.

Child Holiday: Whilst I would love 100% attendance, I accept there may be times when you need to book a holiday. I allow two weeks pre-booked holiday which will be credited onto your next block of sessions.

Tutor Absence: If I am unable to tutor a session, I will try to arrange an alternative session. If this is not possible, any missed sessions will be credited to the next block of sessions.

Review Points: I will review every half term to set targets for the next half term.

Ad Hoc and School Holiday Lesson(s): If Ad hoc lessons are required, I will try to accommodate these where possible, subject to availability. If you would like to be added to the reserve list for this, please contact me to advise. Please also state how flexible you are and how much notice you would need to take up an available space. School holiday lessons can be arranged subject to availability, please contact me to arrange.

Stopping Tuition: If at any time you wish to stop the tuition this can be done by giving notice 4 weeks before the end of the half term we are in to take effect from the end of the half termly block or 4 week block that has been paid for.

Behaviour/Student Expectations: Parents are responsible for ensuring that their children know how to behave appropriately. Abusive or discriminatory behaviour towards the tutor and/or other students will not be acceptable. I reserve the right to cancel any bookings for students whose behaviour is unacceptable, or where abusive language is used by either parent or student.

When online, students are expected to:

• Log in for online lessons on time for the start of their lesson.

• Attend online tuition from an open room such as a living or dining room rather than bedrooms; whenever possible for the purposes of safeguarding, if this is unavoidable please ensure the environment is appropriate: parents/guardians must be nearby and doors must be left open for safeguarding purposes.

• Students should have their webcam turned on unless there is a reason that this is not possible. This enables me to gauge the student’s understanding of the concept being taught.

• Dress appropriately as you would be for in person tuition (no pj’s, swimwear etc.)

• Ensure that all equipment (computer/laptop/iPad, graphic tablets/Apple pencils, webcams, headphones and microphones) are ready and charged where appropriate for the lesson.

• Ensure that you test that your equipment, in particular that your webcam/headset/earphones/microphone are working before the lesson starts. This is especially important if you are going to be working on a new device.

• Keep distractions to a minimum, muting phones/social media/ensure quiet working space etc.

Additional expectations for Online Group Lessons:

• Ensure background is suitable (e.g. no certificates on walls with full names or visible logos which would make students identifiable such as their school logos)

• Students should not share their full name or any details that would make them identifiable within the group.

• Students must ensure that only their first name and first initial from surname are shown on their zoom screen.

Snacks: Unless medically required, whenever possible, snacks should be consumed before or after the lesson. If snacks are required during the lesson, these should be able to be consumed quickly and quietly, to avoid distracting from the learning process.

GDPR: The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) came into force on 25th May 2018 and requires that all businesses issue a privacy statement to all clients and contacts, regarding the data held about the individual. Fiona Blackstone is the ‘controller’ of your data.

Please see my GDPR Policy on my website.

Limitation of Liability: While I will endeavour to ensure the student makes at least satisfactory progress, this cannot be guaranteed, and I cannot be held accountable for the academic success or otherwise of the student. To the maximum extent permitted by law, I accept no liability for any direct or indirect loss or damage, foreseeable or otherwise, including any indirect, consequential, special or exemplary damages arising from the use of my services or any errors or omissions in the content of my learning materials.
